Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Regulations become law on 1 October 2015. The regulations have compliance implications for landlords and letting agents in England.
On 11 March 2015 the Housing Minister announced that landlords would be required to install and check smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in all of their properties. Draft regulations were issued and guidance produced by the Department for Communities and Local Government on 4 September.
On Monday 9 September Draft Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Regulations for England were unexpectedly prevented from going through Grand Committee in the House of Lords where widespread concern was expressed by peers on the time-frame for implementation.
